1.Superman - The first film to really crack it and still the best. Forget that it has dated (The effects still hold up against some recent dodgy films with more technology - D&D anyone?). The casting all round was perfect - Reeves, Hackman, et al. As a kid, you actually believed he could fly... believed his discovering of his powers... believed that no one would discover Kent behind his glasses - and that's where they cracked it, they made you not care about the holes that comic books leave open. I still get shivers when I hear the theme tune.2.Blade - Possibly the only adaptation that is actually better than the comic book. Snipes was a shoe-in, not his best performance but then all he had to do was kick ass and look cool, which he does. The vampire disintegrations set a standard way for them to 'die'. Dorff made a great villain (aside from the dodgy arm chopping FX at the end). The first 5 minutes is still one of the greatest openings 'ever' in movie history. Period.
3. X-Men - Everybody wanted it fail but few can ignore the sheer class of the casting and direction. You didn't have to know anything about the comic book in order to understand what the mutant factions were within the first half hour and that was an achievement in itself. All characters were spot on and the backstories on each were woven in beautifully throughout. And the rest: The world met Hugh Jackman... One mistake - Halle Berry.
4. The Crow - Instantly tripleing the fan base of 'The Crow' comic series. Inspired casting with Lee who previously had not shown any signs of having any acting talents, yet here he literally jumps off the screen, he was made to play Eric Draven. Only the most stone hearted would not shed a tear watching the final moments of Lee passing away. Shame on all those that were involved in the making of 2 & 3, The Crow should stand alone as a tribute.
5. The Road To Perdition - Thought I would slip this in, an adaptation of a comic book/graphic novel. Quite simply one of the most beautiful films ever made - double check those Oscar ballots right now!
